You wake up early, even though it's your day off.
You get up, make a coffee and log into Second Life.
You have no idea, no plan, no goal,
but you are there, you are in your Second life.
A friend logs in, you agree to meet.
You stand around chatting, you are happy with the connection
You talk of your lives, first and second, concerns, plans regrets,
But to soon, its time for your friend to go,
So you hug goodbye, and you are alone again
You go home and wander around your back yard.
Outside the day is breaking, it's getting lighter,
You think of all the things you could do that day,
But, it's not Second life.
A favorite song come on, and you dance around a bit,
But it ends, and you stand there again, empty and lost.
You think of all the time you spent in Second life,
all the wasted opportunities you squandered in your first life
to be in your Second Life.
You love your Second Life,
It's allowed you to do so many things you could only have
longed for and dreamed of in your First Life,
It's a part of you, as real as your First Life
But, the fact is, right this minute, you are bored, empty and alone
You tell yourself, no, today will be different, today you will
Log out, stand up, and meet the day
but your hand waivers, you can't bring yourself to log out.
You stand there, trying to work up the courage to do
One simple act, to log out.
What's out there in Real Life right now?
Except maybe just more boredom, emptiness and lonliness.
You know you are hopelessly addicted to your Second Life,
you need it as much as any drug, it defines and controls you in both lives.
You look out the window, it's getting lighter, it's gonna be a warm sunny beautiful day.
Just click exit, get up, get dressed, and go explore that amazing world of Real life.
But still you can't.
So you take a picture of yourself, standing there, bored, lost, aimless,
and vow to write about how you feel.
You do finally log out, and you write these words.
You love your Second Life, part of you would die if you ever lost it, but you need a balance,
your Real Life is drifting away as you stand here in Second Life, eternal, unchanging.
You will do it, you will embrace your Real Life, for an hour, for a day.
you will hug your partner, you will hug your children.
You will live your Real Life for a single day,
grab it, hold it, squeeze it, take every minute, every experience you can from it
and when you return, be recharged, and be refreshed.
A king once asked his wisest advisor to give him a simple phrase that could make him
happy when he was sad, and said when he was happy
The advisor replied "This too shall pass"
Peace be to you all, may you be blessed in all ways in all times.
You add your picture, you click post, you stand up, and walk away.
This was amazing and made me cry. My poor, sweet BJ. How I have missed your many facets.
